Up, then down, now up

Did you know that the Red Wings are the first team in NHL history to start with a 5 game win streak and then follow it with a losing streak of longer than 5 games? No big deal, the last time the Wings had a long winless streak was in 2008. Before that it was 2002. See where I'm going with this?

You don't? Well then you better Google that shit, because I am not saying it here and then getting the blame for jinxing it all.

Anyways....so the Wings play in a slightly hyped game against the LAST TWO UNDEFEATED TEAMS IN THE NHL...and get worked. It wasn't even funny. It was like a train wreck. I wanted to turn it off, but I just couldn't. I had to see how bad it would be. Then Columbus, good lord...I suppose they had to win sometime, right? I mean, a team can't go 0-82, can they? Then the Sharks, Wild, Wild, and Flames. Outscored 22-6 in a horrifying skid that looked like it would never end.

It was so bad that even my son, who seems to live for nothing other than to see his hero, Niklas Lidstrom play hockey, didn't want to watch. I said, "Hey the Wings game is on", he says, without looking up from whatever he is doing: "Big deal". Yeah, it was that bad.

BUT. Now the Wings are on the up, dropping the Ducks, Avalanche, Oilers, and Stars scoring 18 goals in that time. So what the hell? Are we to put up with this sort of torture all season? I certainly hope not. Oh, and now we lost Ian White to a broken face.

Now the Wings start a 4 game travel period, and one can hope that the absence of White will not hamper the Red Wings. Brendan Smith is called up to serve the last game of his suspension, and perhaps he will play in the other three games. Could be a good time for him to make an impression on Coach Babcock.

Or not. As a fan of Brendan, I am hoping he lives up to his potential.
